Salted Chocolate Iced Coffee

Salted Chocolate Iced Coffee is a coffee house inspired drink that is healthier and easier on your wallet, yet bursting with espresso, chocolate and a sprinkle of salt!

Salted Chocolate Iced Coffee | A healthier coffee house inspired drink with espresso, chocolate and touch of sea salt! #coffee #healthy #chocolate #glutenfree I am a creature of habit.

Despite the foodie in me, I find myself going about my day in the same pattern. Sun rises and I pop out of bed (more like drag lately…), then head to my kitchen to pour myself a glass of iced coffee. My day does not feel complete without my java kick.

Occasionally, I long for the coffee house feel.  The coffee aroma that fills the room, the gentle music that is playing in the background and the overly priced beverage in my hands.  Honestly, I can do without the last one….save my wallet please.

So when these feelings arise, I get creative with my iced coffee.  Enter chocolate iced coffee. A hint of cocoa powder, a dash of sweetener, velvety almond milk and a touch of sea salt set this drink on the next level. The salt amplifies the sweetness to make it completely irresistible.

When I first sipped on this new chocolate iced coffee creation, I was immediately taken back to the my days of a barista.  Minus the price tag and the sugar crash that comes soon after!

My homemade version is much healthier as it does not have the added sugar from the mocha sauce, rather I love stevia to add sweetness to my drinks. Feel free to use your favorite sweetener, even dried dates would be a great substitute!

And feeling really indulgent? Swap the almond milk with full fat coconut milk or heavy cream. And to take it over the top?  Load it up with fresh whipped cream and few chocolate shavings to feel as a barista personally added every touch to make your day spectacular!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, chilled (or my Cold Brew )
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 8 drops vanilla stevia
  • Optional: 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a blender or shaker, combine all ingredients. Blend or shake until completely mixed.
  2. In a tall glass, fill with ice and pour drink over.
  3. Enjoy!

Notes

*The protein powder adds to chocolate flavor along with the creaminess of the drink! So I suggest not to leave it out!

Yummm. I have 2 pitchers in the frig. One iced coffee with cold brew. Orange.zest added in the "brew" process is Realllly good. Favorite is scrapping the loveliness of vanilla from the beans and stir it in to the pitcher with cocoa. You so inspire me. Now I'm thinking toasted almonds soaked in the cold brew, mixing in pastry almond coconut milk. Ummm, excuse me, coffee!
