I feel like the adult swim as a kid was a way to throw torture into a child’s flawless day at the pool.
The moment the whistle blew and the screeching sound filled our ears, a little bit of my heart sank. The agony of waiting a whole 10 minutes, that felt more like 17 hours, while a measly two or three adults dabbled their toe into the water.
While the entire time…I was awaiting to splash freely again.
But some of those days, I filled my time chomping on a melty, M&M ice cream cookie sandwiches and slurping down a sugary cherry and lemonade swirled slushy. Instant brain freeze but totally worth it.
Fast forward to oh, four summers ago, my husband decided to move apartments on the hottest day of the year. Like 102* heat and enough humidity to make it feel like an elephant was sitting on your chest. After our countless trips up three flights of stairs, I had one thing on my mind. An icy adult beverage. Stat.
I started mixing. Into the blender went cherry vodka, lemonade and ice. And then our favorite cocktail was born. Spiked lemonade slushies. An adult’s only slushy that is tart, sweet and oh so satisfying all at the same time.
With only three ingredients, these lemonade slushies come together in a jiffy and are the perfect afternoon beverage while dipping your feet into the pool during the scorching summer heat.
Now an adult swim is completely worth it as long as I have a cherry lemonade vodka slushy in my hand.
Items I used to make this recipe:
- 2 tsp lemonade mix (I use 2 packets Crystal Light Lemonade)
- 3 fl oz Skinny Girl Cherry Vodka, or your favorite cherry vodka
- 1½ cups water
- 2 cups ice
- Add all ingredients into a high power blender and blend until smooth and slushie texture.
- Pour into 2 glasses and sip away!
