I declare every drink to be easy on the eyes.

Let’s be real, the prettier or more colorful something is, the more I am drawn to it. Got bling? I am immediately drawn to it. Bright pink or neons? I am there. Fruity, colorful drinks with umbrellas. Yes please!

When we are out to dinner and see a colorful drinking making its way to the bar, I secretly hope it lands on my table. But in reality, I am rather terrified of the calories and sugar count in those drinks, as they are loaded with syrupy ingredients and juices. Sadly, I stick to my pinot grigio or vodka sodas. I don’t always live my life on the edge.

But that was until I mixed a bit of light orange juice, light cranberry juice and a splash of rum and I am transported to Bourbon Street. Just minus the throwing of the beads. With Mardi Gras approaching, I am starting my day with a bananas foster inspired breakfast, gobbling up a 30 minute chicken and shrimp gumbo over quinoa, and polishing it off with a skinny Hurricane cocktail!

This drink is full on flavor from the orange and cranberry juices but lightened up with only using white rum rather than a mixture of dark and white. While the dark rum is true to the traditional Hurricane, it adds quite a bit more calories to use two types of liquors. Plus the real reason?

I am a bit of a light weight and the idea of having one more Skinny Hurricane Cocktail totally intrigues me!

meal prep tips:

  1. this drink doesn’t really need much meal prepping, but if you want to double or triple the recipe and serve a crowd, just mix and store in a pitcher. Then pour over ice when it’s party time!

I am so with you about being drawn to the bling, but afraid of the calories! Ha ha! Thanks for solving that dilemma. Beautiful shots Meg, can't decide which to pin!

Such a beautiful cocktail! And I agree, the calories/sugar in fancy cocktails can be a killer. Not to mention that I can easily suck down like 3 or 4. DANGEROUS! Love this skinny version!

This is the exact reason I usually away from cocktails: all the unknown calories. Plus, a lot of them are way too sweet for my taste. This is light, refreshing, and I know I won't be drinking a whole day's worth of calories after a couple of drinks. Love it!
