The holiday season is more than holiday parties and endless trays of cookies. It is about giving to others! I love going to our local soup kitchen to serve meals or heading to Harvesters to help sort through all the canned goods. My husband and I went to Harvesters together and we loved the warm feeling it put inside us knowing we helped others!
A few weeks ago, we talked about how UPS #WishesDelievered is giving back this holiday season and asking us all to join in! UPS is inviting everyone to share our holiday wish for others with the hashtag #WishesDelievered. For every wish submitted with the hashtag, UPS will donated $1 to one othe their charity parners (Slavation Army, Boys & Girls Club or Toys for Tots) up to $100K! It couldn’t be any easier to help conribute to a great cause during this holiday season!
My wish for this holiday season is for the children at Childrens Mercy to have a holiday filled with stockings overflowing with toys, candy and presents wrapped and topped with a big bow! We all know someone that has been effected by an illness that can make the holidays just a bit harder. Both mentally and financially. To ensure those kids, that are more than likely tougher than you and I, I wish for the kids at Childrens Mercy to receive presents which will put a smile on their faces!! Whether it is a new sweater, puzzles or maybe that new Frozen doll they have their eye on, I hope those children are able to enjoy this holiday season and forget their situation for just a short time!
Just a bit ago, a sorority sister of mine got notice, on their little boys birthday, that he has cancer. My heart aches for them as I cannot image the endless thoughts that would be running through my mind. He is currently undergoing chemo to treat his tumors, but he is kicking butt! Another sorority sister has put together a Caring Bridge to help donate, along with a ‘Something Special Planner’ to help out their family over the next few months while they work through this bump in the road. It truly shows the power of our community and how one small deed can mean something huge to others! Since Jonah is at Chilren’s Mercy, I would love to see Jonah showered with gifts to help him smile extra big during this holiday season!
In the video above, to see the joy in Carsons face when his wish of being a UPS driver for a day was granted, it truly shows the joy and power of small tasks done for others! It reminds me to give back more often, and not just during the holidays! I am excited to continue giving back, beyond #WishesDelievered, throughout the year!
